long live the beach

We headed to Hilton Head this past weekend for some last minute fun in the sun. The guys, of course, went golfing, and the girls went to the beach. It was the BEST!

We even tried oysters for the first time (steve, me, adam, and bryan). Nothing like a good short road trip and life at the beach.

finally...

I finally figured out how to get video off my canon onto my mac. I created a nice little vid from our LP vacation: featuring Navajo Canyon after a crazy rainstorm.

great apps!

HERB COATED GOAT CHEESE recipe here.
I saw this on "everday italian" awhile back and had been wanting to make these for something. I am doing a dinner club with my sister and some of her friends once a month and last night's theme was appetizers. I was excited to make some new things. This pic just shows a few steps along the way to the final creation - these were delicious and colorful. Served with crostini bread.

PROSCUITTO & PEAR SUSHI recipe here.
Don't be alarmed (there is no raw fish here for all you sushi-haters / I LOVE sushi). It's julienned pears with a little lime juice and pepper (instead of rice). You roll that up using proscuitto slices (instead of seaweed) and make a balsamic reduction (instead of soy) to drizzle on the plate and garnish with chives. BOTH WERE EXCELLENT!

artist or ape?

Take a fun little quiz to see if you can tell whether each painting was created by man or monkey.

not the biggest fan of vampires...but

I just started the new book series by Stephanie Meyer called "Twilight." I have heard many of you mention it already and I needed a new book so I thought I'd give it a try. I started reading last night and will let you know what I think when finished (don't expect a review too fast, I am more of a casual reader) The preface is pretty intriguing and I am excited to see what happens.

simpsonize yourself

I came across this sweet site from another blog and it is hilarious. I am not the biggest simpsons fan but it's cool making yourself into a cartoon.

magic radio / personal radio station

Try this out.... PANDORA.COM... a free internet radio site that lets you create your own stations. You just type in some song names or artists you'd like to hear on your station, and then, using magic, Pandora will create a station that plays songs similar to those. If a song you hate sneaks in, you can give it a thumbs down and never hear it again. If a song you love plays, give it a thumbs up, and Pandora will play more songs that sound like that. And if you want to buy the song, just click the iTunes button and it will appear in your iTunes store so you can put it in your cart if you want.

frank lloyd wright - you've heard of him right?

We were at a class christmas party during undergrad for my Graphic Design class like five years ago and we did a gift exchange. Being that we were of the design mind, everyone brought design-related gifts. Steve was the lucky winner of a Frank Lloyd Wright coffee table book and everyone thought it wasa great book....except for Steve. He is like "who is this guy?" I just laughed because he was a well known person to everyone in the room. We've joked ever since that time whenever we hear his name.

So today on one of my favorite blogs design*sponge she posted this great link to a computer graphic movie highlighting his most famous house (he is an architect for those who don't know). It's a pretty sweet vid - check it out
Don't you want to move in?

golf 'n' graeter's

We had the best time getting together with Steve's high school friends over the weekend (Steve pictured with Jason in cincinnati). Jeff came from Chicago, Brian and us came from Atlanta, and we had a blast playing games & eating out. The boys played a round of golf and Steve smoked them all coming out on top with the winning score.

Kelly and me went and did some shopping at Steve and Barry's and the SJP line BITTEN was awesome with great prices. For $60 I bought 3 shirts, a belt, a bag, bracelet, and some earrings - you can't beat that!

And then to top it off we hit up Graeter's ice cream and that made my whole weekend! The best flavor was their signature Black Rasberry Chip. mmmmm

Peyton was loving it! (mom Kelly)

steve's birthplace

We are headed to Cincinnati for a quick road trip this weekend to visit some of Steve's friends. They were actually the couple that we stayed with in Hawaii - they decided it was time to move back to the mainland after 4 yrs in Kona. The guys will be golfing, women be shopping, and some good eats - word on the street Graeter's Ice Cream is the place to go there.

you should probably make this...

Greek Pasta Salad with Shrimp, Tomatoes, Zucchini, Peppers, and Feta

FROM ALLRECIPES.COM

INGREDIENTS

Dijon Vinaigrette
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • Big pinch of salt
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Pasta Salad
  • 2 medium zucchini, thinly sliced lengthwise
  • 1 medium yellow pepper, halved lengthwise, seeded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Ground black pepper and salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons salt for pasta water
  • 1 pound medium pasta shells
  • 1 pound cooked shrimp, halved lengthwise
  • 8 ounces cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 3/4 cup coarsely chopped, pitted Kalamata olives
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/2 small red onion, cut into small dice
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano

DIRECTIONS

  1. To make the vinaigrette, whisk together the first five ingredients, then slowly whisk in the oil for a thick consistency. Pour into a jar with a tight-fitting lid to transport it to the picnic.
  2. Adjust oven rack to highest position and turn broiler on high. Toss zucchini and bell pepper with olive oil, salt and pepper, and arrange on a large baking sheet with sides. Broil eight to 10 minutes, until spotty brown, turning zucchini slices and pepper halves once. Set aside in a large bowl to cool, then cut into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Bring 1 gallon of water and 2 Tbs. of salt to boil. Add pasta; boil using package times, until just tender. Drain thoroughly (do not rinse) and dump onto the baking sheet. Set aside to cool.
  4. Put vegetables, pasta and remaining ingredients (except dressing) in the bowl or a gallon-sized zipper bag (can be refrigerated for several hours). To serve, add dressing; toss to coat.

i loved the loveshow

I don't know if any of you checked this out Monday night but this concert was AWESOME in HD. I went to his Justified concert in Vegas years back but his music and show with this album was by far better. Although I think he is a bit cocky, he is a pretty brilliant musician, producer, singer, etc. Justin Timberlake - you da man! VIEW DETAILS HERE

Did you LABOR?

LABOR DAY = Annual holiday devoted to the recognition of working people's contribution to society. It is observed on the first Monday in September in the U.S. and Canada. It was first celebrated in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882, under the sponsorship of the Knights of Labor. Various U.S. states observed the holiday before 1894, when Congress passed a bill making Labor Day a national holiday. In the early twentieth century, Labor Day parades, rallies, festivals, and speeches were still organized by labor unions across the country and often supported by political leaders. Because of the shrinking popular base of traditional labor unions, however, most Americans tended to regard the day merely as the finale of a long summer of fun in which hot dogs, barbecues, and picnics reigned.
